Motivational training is a buzz word in the business world. Corporate America spends billions every year on training and motivating its managers and employees. Small and medium companies send their managers and employees to outside trainers because they do not have in-house staff. Large corporations have in-house training for some of this.
What does motivational training do? It keeps managers and employees focused on the task at hand. Training of this type is to motivate employees and mangers to become better team players. A motivated and focused team, be it engineers or a sales force, is a group that will get things accomplished faster and more efficiently than one less motivated. Managers attend motivational seminars so that they can learn how to motivate their employees.
Motivational training is not only found in seminars, although this is the most common form. As with almost anything else, you can find motivational courses on the Internet; and in the form of books and tapes (some seminars can be purchased on tapes, MP3's and even PodCasts). You can benefit from these courses even if you are not working for a large corporation. Even a small business owner can benefit from training because it can give the small business owner focus and direction. These courses are not just go-team-go type of hype. They honestly try to show you ways to do your best, either at your job or at home. Tapes, MP3's and PodCasts are great ways to hear the motivational speakers when you cannot get to the seminar. While not quite the same, you still get the high energy impact from the speaker that you do not get from a book or online course.
Business seems to think motivational training is worth the money they spend on it. Having attended a seminar to two myself, I can agree. Money spent keeping your staff motivated, focused and productive is very much worth its weight in gold. Good thing too -- looks like Corporate America with it's $210 billion in expenditures on training and motivation is ready to pay a king's ransom for good results.
